Summer Intern Scouts
We are looking to fill some Paid Agricultural Summer Intern positions for the 2016 scouting season. The scout is employed as an hourly employee. He/she is responsible for carrying out the duties laid before them by the supervising crop consultant.
EXPERIENCE: The scout must be at least 18 years old, outgoing, enjoy the outdoors, have map reading experience, pay attention to detail, take direct orders, and be physically able to work long hours during busy times. They will perform various tasks as assigned by the supervising crop consultant.
CROPLAND FIELD WORK (95%): Duties include scouting, crop monitoring, and soil sampling. Corn, hay, wheat, and soybean crops are monitored for population, pests, weeds, and general health. Reports on findings are then submitted to the farm and the supervising consultant. The scout is the consultant’s eyes in the field and precise, accurate information is necessary.
TRAINING (5%): Hands-on training will be provided by the supervising consultant and other CMA personnel. All necessary equipment will be provided. Scouts are encouraged to make judgment calls, but consultants are available to answer any questions.
All equipment necessary to complete the assigned task will be provided, but reliable transportation is essential. Mileage will be reimbursed according to the IRS standard rate.
